Two bodies found in Atwater Village motor home fire

December 23, 2009 |  7:12 am

Two badly burned bodies were found inside a motor home that caught fire this morning in an Atwater Village parking lot, authorities said.

The fire was reported at 2:28 a.m. in the 3300 block of North San Fernando Road , said Erik Scott, a spokesman for the Los Angeles city Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived within five minutes of the call and were waved down by several witnesses who directed them to a large parking lot in the rear of a building near a newspaper distribution plant, he said. The vehicle was consumed by flames but was extinguished before it could spread.

One victim was found in an overhead sleeping area and another was found later, under debris, Scott said. Both were adults. One was a man, but the gender of the other could not immediately be identified, he said.

Investigators were trying to determine the cause of the fire.
