Streets closed in Bell while police search for hit-and-run driver [Updated]

Police are searching for a driver who struck a pedestrian at Atlantic and Florence avenues in Bell this morning and then fled, according to the Bell Police Department.

[Updated at 1:43 p.m.: The pedestrian has died, and police have taken the driver into custody but are not yet releasing the name of either person. Atlantic Avenue remains closed between Florence Avenue and Patata Street. Homicide detectives from the county sheriff's department are on the scene.]

Police began receiving calls about the incident at 9:40 a.m. Streets in the area were closed as police searched for the driver. Paramedics were tending to the victim, whose condition was unknown at this time.

Additional details were to be released later today.
