December 3, 2009 |  4:52 pm

A 9-year-old boy who was riding his bicycle home from school this afternoon was struck and killed by a pickup truck in Anaheim, police said.

The incident occurred at 2:30 p.m. at Orangewood Avenue and Loara Street, said Sgt. Rick Martinez.

According to the initial investigation, the boy was on the sidewalk when a Ford F-150 pickup truck pulled up to a stop sign at the intersection and came to a halt. When the truck began moving forward again, the boy suddenly pedaled off the sidewalk and into the street, where he was struck, police said.

The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later was pronounced dead, Martinez said.

The driver of the pickup truck, who was identified only as an adult male, remained at the scene. No criminal charges are pending, Martinez said.
