Sky diver dies, falling onto driveway of home near Murrieta

November 12, 2009 |  6:45 am

A sky diver was killed late Wednesday when his parachute either malfunctioned or failed to open, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

The sky diver, whose name was not released, landed on the driveway of a home near Murrieta.

He was part of a group that took off from Lake Elsinore, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

John Hamilton, the owner of Skydive Elsinore, told the Press-Enterprise that the man was one of four people during the jump and was wearing a special "wing suit" in which there is fabric between the arms and legs.

Hamilton told the paper that the man may have hit the tail of the aircraft when he jumped.
