Elderly driver hits, injures LAPD officer in Van Nuys

November 29, 2009 |  5:01 pm

An elderly driver crashed her car into a Los Angeles police officer today while he attempted to issue a traffic citation, authorities said.

The officer, whose name was not released, had pulled over a driver along Sherman Way, near Katherine Avenue in Van Nuys. He was standing next to the vehicle about 2:30 p.m. when the elderly driver crashed into his patrol car and then struck the officer.

The officer landed on the windshield, said Officer Karen Rayner. He was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition. The driver was uninjured.

Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.

“It looks like it was just an accident,” Rayner said.
