UCSB gets back to normal after report of gunman on campus

October 19, 2009 |  6:25 pm

UC Santa Barbara was getting back to normal this evening after the campus was placed on lockdown this afternoon following reports of a gunman on campus.

UCSB police searched South Hall, which houses liberal arts and humanities courses. It was unclear exactly who reported the gunman, but university officials stressed that there was never a confirmed sighting of anyone with a gun.

A search found nothing suspicious and the hall was reopened.

An alert from UCSB police after 3 p.m. called on all students, faculty and workers on campus to "shelter in place" during the search.

The UCSB police were aided in their search by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department.
