Closure on Coldwater Canyon affects Valley traffic

September 9, 2009 | 10:28 am

Every morning, Vicky Popielinsky walks her dog, Ziggy, in her Sherman Oaks-Studio City neighborhood.

But she noticed this morning that traffic along Van Nuys Boulevard was heavier than usual. And she immediately knew why: Coldwater Canyon Avenue has been closed since Saturday, when a water main broke and flooded local streets and stores.

Now, cars are cutting through nearby surface and residential streets to avoid congested Ventura Boulevard and connect either with Van Nuys or Beverly Glen boulevards.

"It's annoying," Popielinsky said. "It's double aggravating because school started and everyone's on the same schedule."
