Palos Verdes Estates woman faces possible jail time for renting out ocean-view home for weddings

Set above the Pacific Ocean, the home in Palos Verdes Estates offers the kind of California wedding backdrop many a bride would kill for. The owner of the home understood this, and this summer rented out the residence for weddings. But city officials are balking -- "You can't turn your home into a wedding chapel" -- and the owners could face jail time. Details from the Daily Breeze's Melissa Pamer:

The gated estate on Paseo del Mar had a lot to offer wedding planners: sweeping ocean vistas from a seaside cliff, a lushly landscaped backyard and a hulking home on a street lined with similarly impressive houses. This summer, bridal entourages -- not to mention caterers, DJs, valets and equipment rental companies -- streamed onto the Palos Verdes Estates property weekend after weekend, holding boisterous events that echoed off the hills above. In this quiet, affluent town known for strict aesthetic standards, neighbors were not happy. Neither were city officials. Now the home's owner is facing up to two years in jail and a $4,000 fine. If that threat doesn't bring the operation to a halt, the city has prepared to sue Melahat Uzumcu.
