A woman was arrested after a traffic accident in Highland Park that killed another woman and a 6-year-old girl, authorities said today.

The collision occurred about 10 p.m. Friday at Figueroa Street and Avenue 51 when the driver of a pickup truck traveling south crossed into the opposite lane and crashed into a van, said Sgt. Egon Keil of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The driver of the pickup, who has not been identified except as a woman in her 30s, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a narcotic and could be charged with murder, Keil said.

He said there were four people in the van and two people in the pickup.

The 6-year-old, identified by the Los Angeles County coroner's office as Angela Giron, was riding in the van and pronounced dead after she was taken to a hospital. The dead woman, identified as Maria Luisa Dominguez, 51, also was riding in the van and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The two are not related, authorities said.
