August 12, 2009 |  8:38 am

A Culver City councilman was showing signs of improvement after he was severely injured during an assault outside his bar.

Councilman Mehaul O'Leary was assaulted with a deadly weapon about 2 a.m. Sunday at Joxer Daly's Pub, which he owns, police said. The bar is at Washington and Sepulveda boulevards near the city's trendy downtown.

"His injuries were considered serious," said Capt. Dave Tankenson of the Culver City Police Department.

O'Leary was taken to a hospital. Police did not release details on his current condition. Officials said Wednesday he was improving but was still in the hospital with serious head injuries.

Tankenson identified the suspect as Robert Anthony Singerman, 28, of Los Angeles. Police have issued a warrant for his arrest.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (310) 253-6202.
