A Michael Jackson tribute is about to get underway at the Agape International Spiritual Center in Culver City, while organizers of tonight’s BET Awards in Los Angeles announced that they were shifting gears to honor the late pop star.

The Agape International Choir is scheduled to perform Jackson’s hit song "Man in the Mirror" at 11:30 a.m. at the spiritual center. The BET Awards are set for 5 p.m. but will air at 8 p.m.

“The 2009 BET Awards will be dedicated to the life, legacy and legend of music icon Michael Jackson," according to an article on BET’s website. “Who could forget that one of the most memorable milestones in BET history was Michael Jackson’s surprise appearance during the tribute to James Brown at the 2003 BET Awards? His impromptu performance with the ‘Godfather of Soul’ left everyone breathless.”

The BET Awards will be at the Shrine Auditorium. Scheduled performers include Beyonce and Jay-Z. The event will be hosted by Jamie Foxx.

A spokeswoman for the awards said the show would be extended by at least 30 minutes because of Jackson tributes.
