Firefighters protect homes as they battle El Sereno grass fire [updated]

[Udated at 8 p.m.: The Los Angeles Fire Department reports that it has extinguished the grass fire, which had spread to cover 10 acres.]

The Los Angeles Fire Department is battling a grass fire in the El Sereno area that was moving toward homes.

The fire has burned about 2 acres, and firefighters were moving in to protect homes in the hilly area off North Soto Street. No homes were immediately threatened.
