Pasadena fire victims given temporary shelter

May 30, 2009 | 12:38 pm

A fire Friday night at a Pasadena boarding home that killed an 80-year-old resident also displaced 11 residents, who have been given temporary shelter at local hotels, American Red Cross officials said today.

Los Angeles County coroner's officials have not released the name of the man who died, pending notification of his family. A man in his 60s was treated for smoke inhalation.

Red Cross officials said they were working with other Pasadena officials, who would determine when or if the facility in the 600 block of Del Monte Street is habitable.

Debit cards were given to the displaced residents to purchase food, said Red Cross spokeswoman Phillippa Herbert.
