Man killed crossing Pomona Freeway in Chino

April 15, 2009 |  7:32 am

Traffic is backed up on the Pomona Freeway this morning after a man walking across the lanes was hit by several vehicles and killed. Officials closed the westbound lanes east of Central Avenue in Chino at about 4:30 a.m., said Officer Jaci Parent of the California Highway Patrol.

Investigators were trying to determine why the man was crossing the freeway on foot. Officers at the scene did not find a stalled or parked vehicle nearby, Parent said.

"It's unknown what he was doing in the center divider," Parent said. All lanes are expected to be reopened within the hour, she said.
