Wake and reception for former LAPD Deputy Chief Kenneth Garner

A wake and reception for Los Angeles Deputy Police Chief Kenneth Garner, who was the second-highest ranking African American in the Los Angeles Police Department, will be tonight from 5 to 8 at the Crenshaw Christian Center.

Garner, 53, died unexpectedly at his home March 1. He had spent more than 30 years with the department, and most recently served as commander of the LAPD’s South Bureau.

The Crenshaw Christian Center is at 7901 South Vermont Ave. Garner’s funeral be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary on Workman Mill Road in Whittier.
