March 19, 2009 |  6:00 pm

Suspects threw cash out the windows of their pickup as they led San Diego police on a pursuit on several freeways.

Motorists were said to be stopping and scooping up the money.

The chase occurred on freeways and surface streets, ending on the 805 Freeway near the 5 Freeway. It wasn't immediately clear why the chase occurred and where the money came from. When the chase ended, police officers held the suspects at gunpoint. The chase stopped traffic in the area.

UPDATED, 8 P.M.: Two drug suspects were arrested at gunpoint after the chase, officials said. Some motorists had stopped to pick up paper thrown from the car. Whether it was money remains unclear.
Within minutes the freeway was clear and the afternoon commute continued.
