Redondo Beach is home to new super laser

March 19, 2009 |  5:10 pm

Ktla_newsHere are some of the stories KTLA News is working on this evening:

SUPER LASER: Northrop Grumman engineers in Redondo Beach have developed a solid state laser capable of producing 100-kilowatts of power--the Holy Grail for weapons developers. The major milestone now means that defense contractors can build a laser weapon small enough to fit in a fighter jet but powerful enough to destroy an enemy aircraft with a blink of an eye, turning a Buck Rogers fantasy into reality.

LENO LOTTERY: They called it the 'Leno Lottery.'  Hundreds lined-up and camped-out overnight outside the NBC studios in Burbank, hoping for tickets to tonight's taping of President Obama's appearance on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno."  In the end, only a couple dozen tickets were available to a few lucky fans.
