State regulators search office of Anna Nicole Smith's doctor

February 5, 2009 |  2:21 pm

Annanicole State agents served a search warrant today on the Studio City doctor who allegedly prescribed methadone to model Anna Nicole Smith, a California Medical Board spokeswoman confirmed.

It is at least the second time since October 2007 that officials for the state medical board searched a location connected to Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, who was reported to have prescribed methadone to Smith for pain management.

State medical board spokeswoman Candis Coen would not say what state agents were searching for or which location they visited. "I can only confirm a warrant was served," Coen said.

State medical officials opened an investigation on Kapoor in February 2007 after reports that he allegedly prescribed methadone to Smith under the alias Michelle Chase. Kapoor, who is part of an ongoing investigation, has said he cannot discuss details of Smith’s treatment because of patient confidentiality. Smith died Feb. 8, 2007.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration confirmed the agency assisted state agents in executing the warrant.
