Driver arrested in hit-and-run death of baby
A driver believed to be responsible for the hit-and-run death of an 11-month-old girl near downtown Los Angeles has been arrested, authorities said today.
Henry Yovanni Moreno, 30, was arrested about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, 5 1/2 hours after he allegedly ran over a stroller carrying the girl and her 5-year-old sister at Olympic Boulevard and Bonnie Brae Street and fled the scene, said Officer Sam Park of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The 5-year-old was hospitalized and listed in stable condition. The girls’ mother suffered minor injuries. The car, a Honda, was later found near Staples Center. Moreno, of South Gate, was taken into custody near James Wood Boulevard and Bonnie Brae Street and charged with vehicular manslaughter, Park said. Police believe Moreno was driving under the influence.
