January 15, 2009 |  8:28 am

A woman was killed when a Union Pacific train collided with her sport utility vehicle in Palmdale this morning, officials said.

The woman, whose name and age were not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the train tracks located about 1/4 mile north of Rancho Vista Boulevard and running parallel to Sierra Highway, said Sgt. Mike Naccarato of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Her Chevrolet Tracker was struck by the freight train shortly after 6:30 a.m., Naccarato said.

Investigators aren’t sure why the woman’s SUV was on the tracks, he said.
