Police identify man killed while trying to stop taggers

December 18, 2008 |  4:18 pm

Los Angeles police have identified a man killed in a shooting after he and a friend attempted to stop a group of taggers in Hollywood, authorities said today.

Police found Jose Jorge Perez, 29, in his car in the 900 block of Hobart Boulevard about 9 p.m. Wednesday, Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Richard French said.

A friend of Perez’s who was also in the car suffered gunshot wounds, French said. He was listed in stable condition today at a hospital, French said.

Perez and his friend, a 41-year-old Hollywood man, were driving around their neighborhood when they spotted a group of men tagging and told them to stop, French said.

The suspect, a man believed to be in his early 20s, then approached Perez and his friend in the car, confronting them for “yelling at his friends,” French said.

The man fired multiple shots into the car before fleeing the scene, French said.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Det. Rolando Rodriguez at (213) 972-2910.
