An arrest in the Jamiel Shaw murder

March 11, 2008 |  1:33 pm

Pedro Espinoza, a 19-year-old man who police believe has ties to local gangs, has been arrested in the March 2 murder of Jamiel Shaw.

The charge against Espinoza includes a special circumstance allegation that could lead to the death penalty. Prosecutors are alleging Espinoza is "an active participant in a criminal street gang and the murder was carried out to further the activities of the criminal street gang."

Authorities must now decide whether to seek the death penalty. Richard Winton has the full story.

Just hours before police made their announcement, friends and family attended today's funeral service for Shaw.
