Eric Bana may sign on to play the lead in the film version of ‘Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter,’ the Wrap reports. The book was written by Seth Grahame-Smith, the man who spawned an industry of literary mashups with the bestselling ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.’

When I talked with Grahame-Smith in the spring of 2009, he was already at work on ‘Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter,’ but he didn’t want to give away too much about the book. It was released in March of this year, and while the conceit -- Lincoln? Vampires? -- left some perplexed, Grahame-Smith’s treatment was well-recieved. Grahame-Smith is ‘a lively, fluent writer with a sharp sense of tone and pace,’ wrote Time’s Lev Grossman.

Grahame-Smith, who has a background in screenwriting, has seen his books find favor in Hollywood. ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’ -- which he wrote as a work for hire for Quirk Books -- has been optioned by Natalie Portman.

Tim Burton is producing ‘Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter,’ which is slated to reach theaters in June 2012.
