There will be a Sarah Palin memoir in 2010; it’s the Alaska governor’s first book. The former Republican vice presidential candidate told the Associated Press, ‘In fairness to my family, this is going be a good opportunity for them too, because there have been so many misperceptions out there about who we are and what we believe in, and I’m excited to get to put my journalism degree to work and tell my story as it relates to my family.’ Sounds as if her editor at Harper, the imprint of Harper Collins that plans to release the book, will have plenty of work to do.

Word that a sequel to ‘Catcher in the Rye’ is on its way was quickly followed by the assessment that since it’s not by J.D. Salinger, calling it a sequel is more hoax than helpful. The new book, which follows the New York adventures of 76-year-old Holden Caulfield after he’s run away from his nursing home, is entitled ’60 Years Later: Coming Through the Rye’ (which kind of misses the point of the way the original lyric was misheard and turned inside out). The book is coming out in England before it will be available here; the author, Briton John David California, told the Guardian:

I’m not trying to lure [Salinger] out of hiding -- maybe he wants his privacy, [but] it would be fun for me to hear what he thinks about this, and if he’s pleased with the way I’ve portrayed Holden Caulfield and his future.

It would be fun if Thomas Pynchon went on book tour too, but I’m not counting on it. He’s got a new novel, ‘Inherent Vice,’ coming out Aug. 4th. The book is now available for pre-order on Amazon, at a fighting weight of just 384 pages.
