Alberto Garcia, 21, was shot and killed while driving a car near Rex Road and Rosemead Boulevard in Pico Rivera at about 3 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3. He was in a car, and apparently was shot by another driver as they rolled down the street side by side. He died at the wheel, with his car still traveling. Garcia’s car crossed over into oncoming lanes of traffic, crashed a mini-mall telephone post, and came to rest in a parking lot at Slauson Avenue. No one else was injured.

Garcia was a hard-working Moreno Valley resident, still living with his parents. He was working the graveyard shift at the Walmart at Rosemead and Washington, and was just coming back to work from his meal break when he was shot, said Sheriff’s Det. Todd Anderson. He had no ties to gangs or to any illegal activity: He was just doing his job.

Anderson appealed for help with this case. Stores were open, and investigators believe there were people in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart and Lowe’s at Washington and Rosemead just prior to the shooting. They want to talk to any of them, or anyone who was in the vicinity around 2 a.m. or 3 a.m., to get a sense of what was going on there. Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at (323) 890-5500.

* Update, February, 2008: This case has been solved. A suspect was arrested, and has been charged.
