Gonzalo Martinez, 17, a Latino youth, was shot multiple times about 8:45 p.m.at the intersection of Chestnut and Independence avenues in South Gate, and died at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 25.

Deputies described this as a gang-related killing. Sheriff’s Lt. Gil Carrillo said Martinez was on foot when a car pulled up and someone in it shot him over and over in the torso. Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he died.
