Set Pieces: The houses of ‘Modern Family’

Steve Levitan, the co-creator of the Emmy- winning comedy series “Modern Family,” didn’t have to look far to find the home of the show’s Brentwood patriarch, above.
“It actually is the house down the street from where I live,” Levitan says. “I would drive past it every day, and it looked like the modern house that so many rich, divorced older guys seem to end up in.”
Meanwhile in Cheviot Hills, the hectic home of Phil and Claire Dunphy (played by Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen, right) often includes interviews done in front of a staircase wall painted a serene shade called Labrador Blue, by Benjamin Moore. The couch? It’s from Sofu U Love, and the pillows are Pottery Barn.
Then there’s the show’s third home, the Asian-accented duplex where Mitchell and Cameron are raising their adopted daughter. (“We like to joke that they went to China to get a baby that would match their decor,” says Eric Stonestreet, who won an Emmy for his portrayal of Cameron.) Though most of the place is done in tasteful neutrals, the men lose all sense of restraint in daughter Lily’s room, a riot of pink and flowers. The Wildflowers rug is part of the Kathy Ireland Home Innovations collection, the crib is from La Bella Cosa, and, no, the store doesn’t sell the mural of her angelic fathers floating on clouds.
