Tuesday: A for-credit course offered through Mount San Antonio College and held at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden covers basic horticulture skills and techniques for use in gardening, nursery and landscape. The emphasis is on propagation, cultural practices and the study of plant relationships, structure, growth and development. Students must attend the first class or register through the college before the class begins. 6 to 9:10 p.m. $30 Tuesdays through Dec. 10. $30 payable to the arboretum, $75 payable to the college. Friday through Sunday: The Anaheim Home & Garden Show features hundreds of exhibits, seminars, room vignettes, display gardens, home products and flower and plant sale. 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Saturday: Master arborist Susan Sims and certified arborist Chuck Owen present a live pruning demonstration at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden’s oak tree collection. Sims and Owen will discuss and demonstrate the process of pruning a mature oak from start to finish, including diagnosis, technique and maintenance. 9 to 11 a.m. in the Cultivar Garden, with additional instruction and presentation indoors. Saturday: The latest Case Study home tour will begin at Case Study House No. 8 in Pacific Palisades, designed and built by Charles and Ray Eames. The tour will then move to the Hollywood Hills, where Eames Foundation docent Andrew Edelstein will lead a tour of Case Study House No. 22, Pierre Koenig’s steel and glass residence also known as the Stahl House. 2 to 6 p.m. Tickets are $99 and include transportation between the two homes. Saturday and Sunday: Palos Verdes Begonia Society’s annual show and sale features a display of special begonias as well as large sale of unusual plants from specialty vendors. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, 9 a.m to 3 p.m. Sunday. Sunday: The L.A. Flea Market, pictured above, consists of 400 vendors, gourmet food trucks, live entertainment and rides for children. General admission with free parking is $7 and allows admission from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; an early-bird ticket is $10 and allows admission at 7 a.m. Market remains open until 5 p.m. VIP tickets, $15, will include early admission and carryout service. Brown Bag Tuesdays: The Gamble House, the Arts and Crafts landmark designed by Charles and Henry Greene continues a weekly lunch program. Visitors are invited to picnic on the rear lawn or terrace of the 1908 estate between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. each Tuesday. Design biennial: The Pasadena Museum of California Art’s fourth California Design Biennial, titled “Action/Reaction,” will highlight work in industrial design, fashion, graphics, transportation and architecture. Neutra show: The traveling survey “The Amazing Neutras in Orange County” highlights 20 works by noted midcentury architect Richard Neutra. An opening reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
