Seed exchange and potluck at Gardenerd test garden

July 28, 2010 |  6:52 am

GardennerdChristy Wilhelmi of the organic gardening business Gardenerd is combining an heirloom seed exchange in her Mar Vista test garden with a potluck featuring dishes made from participants' harvests.

"I've done seed exchanges before and people get really excited. It's a nerdy thing," says Wilhelmi, who was inspired by similar potlucks hosted by Dervaes family garden in Pasadena. "One of the great satisfactions that comes with gardening is sharing your harvest with others. And there is no better crowd than gardeners who will appreciate what you bring to the table."

The Gardenerd potluck and seed exchange will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 7. Attend and you will go home with a quickly put-together "Summer Harvest Cookbook" composed of the recipes shared at the event. Admission is free. RSVP to Nicole@gardenerd.com.
