A + R, one of the city’s most original home accessory shops, has expanded. Owners Rose Apodaca and Andy Griffith took over 800 square feet next to their shop on Abbot Kinney Boulevard -- room they’re using to add tables, chairs, desks and floor lamps to their high-design mix. But even if their foray into furniture is new, Apodaca, formerly bureau chief for Women’s Wear Daily and consulting editor for The Times’ Image section, and Griffith, an English ex-pat film editor, have maintained their laser focus on cutting-edge pieces at a variety of price points.

Among the additions is Swedish designer Jens Fager’s Raw Lounge chairs for Muuto ($1,550 each), which meld classical lines with pop colors like canary yellow. Up-and-coming, Milwaukee-based Misewell’s wood and steel chairs ($365 each) and walnut and metal tables ($1,100) are also new to the store. A + R also carries Pasadena-based BlueLounge’s sleek StudioDesk ($665), which cleverly hides power cords and other cables in a hidden compartment for a clutter-free look.

The large pieces are interspersed throughout the gallery-like store, amid the mix of bar- and kitchenware, wall graphics, jewelry, kids’ and garden accessories, as well as more category-defying objects like concrete incense “cottages” (smoke wafts out of the chimney) and wing-shaped, reflective bicycle clips.

A + R, 1121-1 Abbot Kinney Blvd., Venice; (310) 392-9128 or www.aplusrstore.com.
