I was on La Brea Avenue over the weekend to see what’s new. Among the recent additions: the contemporary furniture store Haus at the corner of Melrose Avenue. Though only open four months, the store is holding a floor sample sale through Feb. 28 to make room for new designs.

The platform bed pictured above lifts up at the foot, revealing a storage well under the mattress. Originally $2,499, the floor model is on sale for $1,499. A streamlined dining table -- from what I could tell, its veneer finish in fine shape -- is marked down from $999 to $439. A white crocodile-textured cocktail table, originally $799, is now $399. None of the designs would suit my 1911 cottage, but for those who like contemporary furniture that comes with some novel functionality, Haus might hold some solutions. The Weelit table shown here has a lower level that swings out for more tabletop surface or rolls away to save space. It’s $499. A coffee table called the Elevator has a glass top that pivots up, a classy TV-tray alternative for those of us who eat in our living room.

Other designs (and photos) after the jump...

Above: The cocktail table with a white crocodile-pattern finish has storage drawers in the base and a sectioned top that can slide in pieces. Originally $799, the floor model is on sale for $399.

Above: A leather sectional with chaise has backrests that can be set in two positions -- low for a more streamlined look or high for added comfort. Originally $2,899, the floor sample is on sale for $1,899.

Haus, 652 N. La Brea Ave., Los Angeles; (323) 932-6580 or www.haususa.com. Open Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Floor sample sale ends Feb. 28.
