Architect Flavia Pagotti Silva’s Bate-Papo Stool is a low-lying, casual seat inspired by stools used in the Brazilian countryside. In Portuguese, the phrase bate-papo means an informal conversation among friends and it is easy to imagine transporting this lightweight seating from room to room at a party, allowing you to chat with different people.

Composed of four plywood disks anchored by ball joints and joined by pliable fabric, the stool is simultaneously organic and modern. But like the butterfly chairs designed by Argentinian architect Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy, it may not appeal to everyone. Like grandma.
