The Deal: Christopher Farr sample sale offers deep discounts on custom rugs
Several years ago, the custom rug manufacturer Christopher Farr was kind enough to loan us a hand-knotted wool rug for a photo shoot. Designed by textile artist Kate Blee, the gray rug was like a Minimalist work of art featuring a simple red circle in the center. It was luxurious and gorgeous and, at nearly $9,000, quite intimidating.
Therefore, my mouth dropped when I saw the prices at Christopher Farr's current sample sale at its La Cienega showroom. In what is a unique move for the company -- it inherited duplicate floor samples following the closing of a Texas showroom -- Farr is selling about 12 different floor samples at steep discounts. “It’s basically about space saving,” says Joseph Rainsford. The sale includes the 8-by-10-inch rugs shown here, from left: Cross, Path and Springtime. The original cost for each was $5,280; now it's $1,950.
