In what is, sadly, a well-timed lecture, photojournalist and L.A. at Home contributor Debra Lee Baldwin will lecture on landscapes that can reduce the threat of fire or even slow the advance of flames. Specifically, Baldwin will discuss a Rancho Santa Fe garden that was protected from the 2007 wildfire by its succulents and another San Diego garden where the homeowner landscaped with drought and wildfire in mind.

The lecture will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 20 at Quail Botanical Gardens in Encinitas. Cost is $12. Registration is required: (760) 436-3036, Ext. 206.
