First, I watch it for the story. The second viewing of ‘Mad Men’ is for the design details. If you can tear your eyes off the well-groomed ad execs on AMC’s Madison Avenue melodrama and look at their offices, you’ll notice a lot of horizontal reliefs and abstract artwork hanging on the paneled wood walls. Pieces like these vintage finds from French 50s60s in Venice would look great in an office, a hallway or the spot over a sofa. The brass and enamel Viking ship sculpture on the left is a mix of Curtis Jere craftiness and Danish modern design; the flat wool French tapestry on the right looks like fireworks over Manhattan. The Vikings are $950, and the fireworks are $1,200, which may be mad money even for insatiable midcentury design fans.
