Set decorator Amy Wells, who has received two Emmy nominations for her work on ‘Mad Men’ and recently completed work on former Gucci designer Tom Ford’s directorial debut, ‘A Simple Man,’ is quite a sport. Last December, when we asked design professionals to find style in the aisles of discount stores, she shopped for bargains at the new HomeGoods in Glendale, above.

It was so much fun that Wells, who says she’s ‘always shopping anyway,’ recently invited me to tag along with her as she made the rounds of secondhand furniture stores near home in South Pasadena. This, despite the fact that she was in the middle of shooting the ninth episode of the new season, which begins its third season of thrilling design obsessives on Aug. 16. (Wells even drove, though I helped carry the haul: framed artwork, bar supplies, rugs and a vintage toaster.) See that story, with selections from her little black book, here.
