Yes, there are many creative solutions for people who have less-than-ideal spaces to garden in, but let’s face it: For some plants there is just no substitute for a nice-sized yard and ample sunlight. Theoretically a community garden can fulfill the need for an apartment dweller to get growing, but with wait lists capped at almost all the community gardens in Los Angeles, your chance of getting a plot are getting worse than getting your kid into a good nursery school.
