‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’: California teen crafts an epic trailer

It’s only hours now until the opening of ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,’ and no doubt come Friday someone will say, ‘The books are waaay better than the film.’ No comic book adaptation can escape it, and those who listen carefully in the last act of the movie can even hear a character declare as much.
Edgar Wright’s big-screen take on Bryan Lee O’Malley’s comicshad to omit some material in order to condense six books into a movie with a running time just under two hours, but Hero Complex can assure those who haven’t seen the film that it’s actually pretty dang faithful to O’Malley’s creation.

O’Malley alerted the universe to the fan-made trailer with a tweet on Tuesday, and it lovingly re-imagines one of the ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ teasers with frames of the comic, a la the famed re-imagined ‘Watchman’ trailer.
It was all put together by 18 year-old Max Ketchum, a budding film student who lives outside of Sacramento in Woodland...
Oddly enough, Ketchum isn’t even a Scott Pilgrim super-fan. It wasn’t until checking out the ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’ panel at San Diego’s Comic-Con International that Ketchum explored the books.
‘I really got into it, and the panel made me want to check out the comic books,’ Ketchum said. ‘While I was reading those, I kept watching the trailers to see what the similarities were. I noticed it was pretty much the same.’
As of Wednesday afternoon, the clip has received more than 32,000 views on YouTube. Ketchum, who once made a YouTube video of ‘Heroes’ clips, said he spent between 12 and 15 hours on the ‘Scott Pilgrim’ teaser.
‘I expected it to get around 200 views,’ he said ‘I was excited when I got two comments. It’s overwhelming.’
