Kristen Wiig and her inevitable exit from ‘SNL’

If Kristen Wiig is indeed preparing for the next chapter of her career, it’s certainly not a private process. Reports are rampant that the ‘Saturday Night Live’ funny lady is leaving the show at season’s end.

Wiig’s contract expires in May, and given her Academy Award-nominated success with the female comedy ‘Bridesmaids,’ it’s a natural move to exit the sketch comedy show for movie stardom.

‘Well, everyone has to leave,’ Wiig told Alec Baldwin on the frequent ‘SNL’ host’s podcast Monday.

‘This is my seventh year, and that’s my family,’ she said. ‘It’s my heart. It’s New York to me.’

WIig isn’t the only star possibly headed for the door — reports say digital-short mastermind Andy Samberg and Jason Sudeikis will walk as well. Those would be big shoes to fill, and ‘SNL’ executive producer Lorne Michaels seems hip to the vacancies, given his tryout of actress Kate McKinnon last weekend’s Sofia Vergara-hosted show.

Wiig has a slew of movie projects on the burner as well as the completed cougar romance ‘Imogene,’ costarring ‘Glee’ guy Darren Criss.
