Michael Madsen landed behind bars Friday night after a fight with his teenage son. The actor was arrested and now faces felony charges for suspicion of cruelty to a child.

The actor’s attorney, Perry Wander, is already speaking out on his behalf, saying that the incident started when Madsen caught his son with marijuana.

‘[Michael] found his son smoking pot and they got in an argument when he tried to take it away,” Wander tells TMZ. “It’s a family matter and Michael asks that his family’s privacy be respected.”

Malibu law enforcement and later special victims detectives responded to the family dispute call Friday afternoon to investigate suspicion of physical abuse, Deputy Peter Gomez tells our sister blog LA Now. Madsen appeared to be under the influence of alcohol when deputies arrived at 2:15 p.m.

Madsen, who was being held at Lost Hills station on $100,000 bail, told TMZ the ordeal was a “big misunderstanding.”

The 54-year-old brother of actress Virginia Madsen is known for his roles in Quentin Tarantino’s “Reservoir Dogs” and “Kill Bill Vol. 2.”
