Heather Locklear and Jack Wagner reportedly called off their engagement last week because wedding planning was too time-consuming -- and because it was all too disruptive to their kids.

Locklear and Wagner, the ‘Melrose Place’ lovers who brought the romance to real life in 2007 and got engaged in August, were spending so much time planning their big day that they had no time left for family, Jack told TMZ. The family-time commitment was complicated by the fact that they didn’t want to do the blended thing, he told the site, because it would be disruptive to their too-young kids.

Wagner has two sons, 16-year-old Peter and 21-year-old Harrison, from his marriage to Kristina Malandro, which ended in 2006. Locklear has 14-year-old daughter Ava Sambora from her marriage to Richie Sambora, which ended in 2007.

(Hey, the ‘young’ thing was his word, not ours.)

The two broke the news to their families on Tuesday, her publicist said, but no explanation was given at that time. Wagner said Monday that they ‘still love each other very much,’ however.

Guess nobody thought to get married like Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell did, at the U.K. equivalent of city hall? Though, OK, they did have a pretty cool reception, and that takes time to throw together.

No matter. If it ain’t right, it ain’t right. Just ask Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian.
