Adele literally can’t sing us this sad song: The British diva has been forced to clear her tour calendar for the rest of the year so she can undergo surgery on her vocal cords.

‘It is with deep regret that Adele has been forced to cancel her remaining live dates and promotional appearances in 2011,’ her website said.

‘She is to undergo surgery to alleviate the current issues with her throat and a full recovery is expected. As a result, doctors have ordered her to rest her voice and completely recuperate before looking to schedule any work commitments.’

This full benching of the ‘Someone Like You’ hit maker comes after several months of scaling back a U.S. tour and other dates abroad, and even a few postponements as her condition worsened.

The culprit is severe laryngitis, so volatile that often her voice gave out entirely. Adele wasn’t due back in the studio for another album, though she did indicate in a recent chat with Jonathan Ross that she’d be recording ‘a theme’ in November, presumed to be for the forthcoming James Bond film.
