Ryan Gosling helps break up a street fight in New York [Video]

August 22, 2011 |  5:20 pm

Ryan Gosling is a movie star, a musician and, um, a peacemaker? Apparently so, as amateur video taken over the weekend shows Gosling ending a street fight in New York.

Footage taken by a passerby shows two men locked in a scuffle, one holding a painting while trying to avoid blows from the other. Several pedestrians attempt to stop the fight, but only Gosling gets the job done effectively.

Rocking a tank and some high tops and armed only with a shopping bag, the "Crazy, Stupid, Love" actor shows up in the middle of the action and drops the bag so he can help control the brawlers. He might not be a Hollywood hero like, say, amateur firefighter Kate Winslet, but still -- nice job, Ryan.

And the woman shooting the video? "The Notebook" actor's appearance seems to have made her day.
