Might the Venice Film Festival provide the perfect opportunity for Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna to make amends over their probably-but-maybe-not-but-still-fight? Call us optimists, but we at the Ministry see that window.

The official lineup of films premiering and competing in this year’s festival reveals two key events: Madge’s directorial debut, the love story ‘W.E.,’ will have its first major screening in Venice, as will Paltrow’s massive ensemble disease flick, ‘Contagion.’

Though the two could maneuver around each other in all the festival madness, an A-list collision just seems easier. Be it at a Vanity Fair bash, at a private dinner thrown by Valentino or simply over plain old vino on two barstools — can’t ya’ll just work it out?

The rift was rumored to have begun in summer 2010, when whispers about jealousy supplanted their history girls nights in London and family vacations in the Hamptons. We’d like more of the latter, please.

The Venice Film Festival kicks off Aug. 31. Catch more about it at 24 Frames.
