We’ve said it before -- it’s hard to be a mere mortal in Bon Temps. The creatures of ‘True Blood’ and its fictional Louisiana town are cold-blooded, hot-tempered and loaded with drama, so what’s a guy got to do to compete?

For Kevin Alejandro‘s Jesus, a little magic goes a long way. As the show’s resident Wiccan and boyfriend to Nelsan Ellis’ Lafayette, Alejandro is enjoying his upgrade to series regular with a shady storyline for the just-premiered fourth season.

Things you need to know about Alejandro:

He’s joining the shirtless ranks: ‘Come on, it’s ‘True Blood’!’ he said when we asked if creator Alan Ball would have him shirt-free or even in his skivvies in the coming season. He’s in good company with Alexander Skarsgard and Joe Manganiello.

He has fun with the man-love: Alejandro and Ellis play lovers, but there’s no to-do about the dude action. ‘We keep it really light and have a lot of fun. And it’s really clear we have a great chemistry. I’ve learned a lot just watching him act.’

He’s an unlikely pioneer: ‘It’s not lost on me that Jesus is a male witch and a male nurse. He’s so well written and, yeah, I guess pushing the envelope.’

He’s a dad: In real life, Alejandro has a 3-year-old who’s ‘full of personality. He’s at this point where he really can’t shut it.’ He and his magazine editor wife raise their little guy in Venice Beach, something he says encourages a relaxed and artistic vibe. ‘We have a lot fun here, riding our bikes or catching a movie. I didn’t fall in love with L.A. until we lived here.’
