The 2011 Film Independent Spirit Awards, more briefly known as the Spirit Awards and more casually as the Indie Spirits, went back to the beach Saturday in Santa Monica to honor independent filmmaking efforts.

Some of the names in the lead actress category are familiar from the other awards-season lists:
Annette Bening for ‘The Kids Are All Right,’ Nicole Kidman for ‘Rabbit Hole,’ Jennifer Lawrence for ‘Winter’s Bone,’ Natalie Portman for ‘Black Swan’ and Michelle Williams for ‘Blue Valentine’ -- but the 26th Spirit Awards add Greta Gerwig for ‘Greenberg.’

Among lead actor nominees, James Franco is familiar for ‘127 Hours,’ but the similarities from Oscar’s roster end there as the list rolls on to include Ronald Bronstein for ‘Daddy Longlegs,’ Aaron Eckhart of ‘Rabbit Hole,’ John C. Reilly for ‘Cyrus’ and Ben Stiller for ‘Greenberg.’

‘Black Swan,’ ‘127 Hours, ‘Greenberg,’ ‘The Kids Are All Right’ and ‘Winter’s Bone’ are up for feature film. See all the categories and nominees here. Click the photo to see pictures off the Spirit Awards red carpet.

The Ministry of Gossip will have one-on-one interviews off the red carpet coming up, but until then enjoy the live stream -- and be thankful you’re warm at home or work, and not chilling outside in Santa Monica, where it’s currently about 52 degrees.
