Ricky Gervais: Planning for the Oscars, with Ellen’s help?

Is Ricky Gervais angling for a job at the upcoming Academy Awards? Nah, the erstwhile Golden Globes host has simply been hanging around in Ellen DeGeneres’ underpants. And we thought it all looked a little ... familiar.
DeGeneres sent the image out Monday on Twitter with the caption, ‘Please enjoy this photo of Ricky Gervais in my underwear.’ The chat show host had the pair custom made for Gervais to wear Sunday night after he told her last week he wears Ellen underwear only for special occasions.
On her show ahead of the awards, he mentioned having in mind some, well, ‘I call them ‘targets,’ ‘ he said. ‘They’re people in the audience.’
Ellen had to know: Did he worry about anyone coming after him when the show was over? (And we have to ask: Did she know something ahead of time?)
‘I only go for the weak and the feeble. I’m not going to have a go at Russell Crowe or Mickey Rourke ... Mickey Rooney maybe, I think, Betty White, I’m not scared of her.’ Still, after his Globes outing Sunday -- lauded by some, criticized by others -- going incognito might be Gervais’ best chance at getting near the Kodak Theatre on Feb. 27.
