Reese Witherspoon sparkles with fiance Jim Toth at a Lakers game
Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth, who got engaged over the holidays, hit Staples Center all casual-like for the L.A. Lakers game Tuesday against the Detroit Pistons. In addition to ushering Kobe Bryant into the NBA's top 10 scorers of all time, the game was also a chance for a curious public to check out Witherspoon's new engagement ring, a four-carat Ashoka-cut diamond set in platinum.
What's the big deal with the Ashoka cut? Based on a classic diamond from around 262 B.C., the patented cut features 62 displayed facets (Bryant's career scoring total, in comparison, displayed 26,671 points by the end of the game.)
It also can't be done with just any diamond -- gotta be a big 'un, because about 40% to 60% of the stone is lost in the cutting process.
William Goldberg Diamond Corp., the patent holder, says that only a couple hundred rocks a year will fill the bill, worldwide.
Almost as sparkly as Reese, yes?
