Williams, a medical marijuana proponent who supports use of the drug to relieve symptoms of conditions including multiple sclerosis, was released and continued his travel plans after paying a $484 fine, the sheriff’s department said.

And here we thought it was expensive to get caught carrying an extra suitcase?

An MS sufferer himself, Williams was diagnosed with the chronic neurological condition — which in his case manifests in part as numbness in his feet, weakness in his left leg and balance problems — in 1999, after experiencing symptoms for 20 years.

He founded the Montel Williams MS Foundation in 2000 to help further research into the disease.
