Russell Crowe does the celeb thing for ‘The Next Three Days’

With his crime drama ‘The Next Three Days’ opening, well, in the next three days, Russell Crowe was the biggest star on the red carpet at a special screening Tuesday night at the Directors Guild of America.
‘I’m famous for making movies,’ Crowe told 24 Frames recently. ‘Celebrity just happens to be an unfortunate byproduct of what I do.’
Pardon the Ministry, please, if that side effect makes us inappropriately happy.
Costars at the DGA included Nazanin Bonaidi, Jonathan Tucker, Moran Atias, Jonathan Tucker and Ty Simpkins, there with his older sister, actress Ryan Simpkins. (Click the pic of Ty, left, to launch a gallery of photos from the event.)
Also on the scene were ‘Girls Gone Wild’ honcho Joe Francis, Shelby Young of ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘The Social Network,’ Vail Bloom of ‘The Young and the Restless’ and Christopher McDonald, who as Harry Daugherty on ‘Boardwalk Empire’ just set up Warren Harding to be elected president.
Crowe hadn’t seen the finished film before its New York premiere Nov. 9, in part because of piracy issues, he told ‘Access Hollywood’ on that red carpet.
‘I live in Australia,’ he said, ‘so ... somebody actually has to get on a plane, with a disc, fly down, waste three days of their life and sit around in a hotel room while I get around to watching it in between looking out for my kids. ...’
‘They did that once, and I went, you know, don’t put some poor person through that again.’
The movie, which also costars Olivia Wilde, Liam Neeson and Elizabeth Banks, opens Friday in U.S. theaters.
